Frank T. Inouye grew up in pre-WWII Los Angeles. He attended Catholic school, enjoyed camping and cowboy movies, and lettered in tennis at UCLA, but that changed with Pearl Harbor. Frank - an American citizen with parents born in Japan - was sent to Heart Mountain internment camp on the desolate high plains of Wyoming.

Recently published by The Heart Mountain Wyoming Foundation and the Heinz History Center, the memoir of Frank T. Inouye vividly recalls the dynamic neighborhood of his youth, his bewilderment and growing indignation of being imprisoned, and his return to society as a history professor.  Frank writes with wisdom, joy, and curiosity about what it means to be an American.
